Life Sentence canceled officially at The CW, Lucy Hale confirms

Unfortunately, Life Sentence at The CW now officially has a death sentence to go along with it.

In a new post on Twitter series star Lucy Hale confirmed the news that has been floating out there for a while — the series, about a young girl who learns that she is surviving a battle with cancer and has to consequently rebuild her life, will not be coming back. We don’t necessarily see this as a case of a show not resonating with its viewers (as Hale suggests); instead, it was more about struggling to find one in the first place. Maybe a part of that was The CW thinking there would be more enthusiasm surrounding the show’s lead and that would be enough in order to ensure that it stuck around. However, that has unfortunately proven to not be the case.

The first suggestion that the series was over was back when it was moved over to a new timeslot on Friday nights; yet, there was still a small smidgen of hope just because of the fact that Dynasty was moved to that spot and despite poor ratings, it’s still getting another season. This show just didn’t have the franchise name or hope for big international ratings behind it in the same way.

For Hale, we doubt that she will remain out of a TV job for too long given that we’re talking about someone who still helped to headline one of the biggest shows in recent TV history in Pretty Little Liars. There will likely be many different opportunities that she can jump on in the weeks to come. Meanwhile, The CW has some spots that can be filled in their upcoming fall schedule; not only is Life Sentence ending, but Valor is likely to be done and The Originals is ending. With the network adding two more hours of programming on Sundays, they could order as many as five or six new shows depending on episode orders and just what happens with another bubble series in iZombie.
