Shadowhunters season 3 episode 8 video: Magnus, Alec talk Jace
In this case, it’s pretty clear that the source of this said tension is Jace. The sneak peek below, via Entertainment Weekly, is more evidence of that. If there is a way in which to bring Jace back from his internal prison as an Owl, it’s going to be by using Alec and the connection that he has with him. Alec is confident in his abilities to help, but that confidence may only go so far given that there is still an enormous risk at the heart of what is being done here.
Let’s just set up the stakes as follows: If Magnus and Alec decide to go through with taking this enormous risk, what they could be doing in turn is putting Alec right in harm’s way. There is a pretty serious risk since he could fall under Lilith’s control — with that in mind, he and Jace could both end up being gone from the team. That’s so bad that it could be bringing the Institute past the point of no return. Trying to bring Jace back alone is hard enough.
Despite the risks, it does feel as though Magnus trusts Alec enough to let him go through with taking the risk. Consider this another great reminder of the immense love and support that these two have for each other. They are willing to see each other through thick and thin and they trust one another’s abilities. Magnus knows that trying to stop Alec from a plan is not going to help them save Jace; also, we have a feeling that he is going to be there in the event something goes south.
