Supergirl star Melissa Benoist playing Carole King on Broadway this summer

During her time away from Supergirl this summer, Melissa Benoist has now found herself quite the high-profile gig.

This morning, it was announced that the actress is going to be appearing on Broadway in Beautiful: A Carole King Musical from June 7 until August 4. Given that Supergirl does typically start filming in July, this does suggest either a later start date for season 4 filming or that Kara may not be in the first couple of episodes. Unless somehow the cast and crew really compress a lot of filming into a short period of time we’re more inclined to believe the former. Given that Supergirl season 3 is running into the summer we wouldn’t be altogether shocked if the series starts a little bit later for the fourth season. Odds are, we’ll learn a little bit more about that at The CW’s upfront presentation later this month.

For now, let’s celebrate what is sure to be a rather wonderful gig for Melissa as she gets a chance to spread her wings a little bit and try something new on the Broadway stage. In a statement, Benoist had the following to say about this opportunity:

“The stage has always felt like home to me, and the fact that I will be joining the amazingly talented Beautiful family for my Broadway debut is wish fulfillment at its finest. Carole’s music was a mainstay in my household growing up, like it was for so many people. It will be an honor and a pleasure to sing her music and portray her inspiring resilience to audiences every night.”

Benoist had always done an exceptional job filling her off-season schedule with other actor projects, whether it be movies or the Paramount Network series Waco. It’s clear that this summer is no exception.
