NCIS season 15 episode 21 promo teases Pauley Perrette’s farewell

NCIS season 15 episode 21 is coming onto CBS this Tuesday and judging from the first promo (which CarterMatt has for you below), it looks like “One Step Forward” is going to be emotional for all Pauley Perrette fans. If this preview is accurate to the story that’s coming, it seems as though Abby’s eventual exit is going to play out continuously both in this episode and the one that follows.

While this preview doesn’t give too much away in terms of the exit story, you do get a couple of touching moments between her and some of the other characters. We especially love that it seems like we’re getting some great stuff with her and McGee — this relationship dates back to the very beginning of the series and it feels so important that the writers pay homage to that and their evolution over time. We like to think that Tim is one of those people who, no matter what happens with Abby’s exit, is going to keep in contact with her once she is gone. (We are just going ahead and assuming that Abby isn’t killed off because the thought of that is too depressing to consider.)

At least NCIS seems to be very much aware at the moment of the enormous impact Abby has had on not only some of the characters on the show, but also the series itself. It’s hard to imagine NCIS being anywhere close to the series that it is if Abby wasn’t on it — she was a source of great life and vitality and she brought a relatability to the office that you didn’t get anywhere else. She was an inspiration for many to get into forensic science and beyond that, she’s been a valuable friend to so many others in the team. Replacing her, both in terms of the cast and in terms of the story, is not going to be an easy feat.

After Perrette’s exit in episode 22, there will still be two more installments this season. CBS has already renewed the series for a season 16.
