Shadowhunters season 3 episode 6 review: The truth about Jace
For the first time all season, some of the main characters have figured out what we’ve figured out for a little while now: Jace is the Owl, possessed and controlled elsewhere to do a series of terrible events. At the start of the episode, Lilith ordered him to find one more mundane so that she could complete her mission to bring back Jonathan. At first, he tried to do that by targeting Izzy’s new man Charlie, but he didn’t really get a chance to go through with that. However, at the end of the episode he ended up succeeding when it comes to Lukle’s partner. He is now in a situation where, seemingly, he may have gotten for Lilith just about everything that she could possibly want. Yet, in the process now there’s enough information for Clary, Alec, and the rest of the Shadowhunters to be able to do something about this.
Even before seeing Jace in the flesh as the responsible party, Clary and Magnus worked together and had pieced together many different clues, whether it be seeing some of Jace’s erratic behavior or uncovering some of his lies when it comes to his “training.” This was easily enough for them to realize a little bit more as to something being off — this wasn’t exactly Jace-like behavior. Magnus has figured out that the woman who came to visit him recently may very well be the same as the demon who attacked Clary. This much has been figured out as of right now and the next order of business is rather simple: Figuring out precisely what to do from here.
Malec update!
We do think that the two are going to work through what has been somewhat of a rough patch for them, but what we do appreciate about the writing for the conflict is that it does paint the two as an ordinary couple. This isn’t about a supernatural issue; instead, it’s about insecurity. Alec is worried that he’s not special at all to Magnus after finding out about his mementos. Meanwhile, Magnus has some fears about whether or not he can be enough for Alec, who is inexperienced in love outside of them. Like any other human issue, this cannot be conquered with some sort of violent showdown. This takes time but hopefully, we’re going to get a chance to see the two have more happy, peaceful moments soon.
CarterMatt Verdict
In between these stories above and the rise of Heidi as a nuisance to Simon’s life (which did lead to a discussion with Izzy as to what to do about her), Shadowhunters season 3 episode 6 was eventful but also very much entertaining. There was a lot that unfolded from start to finish and for the most part, all of it was excited. We’re especially excited that the Jace reveal is now out in the open given that this does open up the possibility for a lot of other interesting storylines to unfold.
