Should NCIS season 15 make Abby’s replacement official by finale?

NCIS season 15 obviously has its work cut out for it over the remainder of this season. For starters, they have to make sure that Pauley Perrette and her character of Abby are written out the best way that they can be. Beyond that, though, they also need to figure out the right way to handle whoever gets that spot on the team next — and figuring that out is almost sure to not be an easy task.

The first thing we should say on the subject of Abby’s replacement is simply this: In so many ways, it’s impossible to replace a character like this. Nobody is ever going to be Abby or have that same mixture of ambition, enthusiasm, and know-how on the job. She is a character different from any other and it’s hard to imagine anybody really coming in and filling an identical void.

Yet, we know that season 15 has already brought in a character in Kasie who does seem as though she is the best replacement the team could get following Abby — she has the right skill set for the job and she could be an organic fit for the role. Yet, it does still feel a little too soon to officially name her the new star of the show for a couple of different reasons.

1. We’ve yet to see her independently of Abby – Often times, it does take getting a chance to see a character stand on their own before determining whether or not they would be good on the show. We’re not quite at that point just yet when it comes to Kasie. Maybe the final episodes present the character that opportunity.

2. We also have not heard of any official promotion just yet – We consider what’s going on at the moment with Kasie to be more of a trial run for this character to see whether or not she could be good in the role. It’s similar to when we saw Sarah Clarke and Duane Henry at the tail end of Michael Weatherly’s tenure. Henry ended up sticking around, though we do wish there were some more opportunities to see Clayton Reeves than what we’ve seen on the show to date.

At the moment, we do think it’s best to be open to anything when it comes to the future of NCIS without Perrette and we’ll see what’s decided over the course of the summer.
