Santa Clarita Diet season 3 being planned, but not official yet
Let us start here with the bad news: Technically, we have not seen Netflix officially greenlight the show for another season. It is something that is high up on the CarterMatt wish list since we are completely in love with this series, but there are a lot of things that need to happen for the renewal to be ordered. They have to gauge not only what their audience is at present, but also what the creative could be for the show coming. Personally, we do think that it will come back just on the basis of innovation and star power alone — these two things go a long way towards promoting the show, which is super-integral at this point given the present era that we are in.
Now, here is the good news — it does appear as though there is already some work behind the scenes in order to ensure that there is another season of the show prepared if they do get another season.
Speaking in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, show executive producer Victor Fresco made it clear that there is already a writers room open in order to ensure that more episodes get made:
There’s always more story. The whole season one took place over two weeks and season two takes place over two weeks, so they’re still only about a month into this incredible change that they’re going through. We have not been picked up for season three, but we have started with the writers. So we are back at work writing — fingers crossed. We don’t have any data to know how the show is doing, so we’ll just have to see.”
Consider this statement by Fresco yet another reminder that not even some content creators on Netflix know how their series are faring. The basic way in which to gauge hits on these streaming services is really rather simple: If your show sticks around, you can go ahead and assume that the numbers great. If it’s canceled, it probably wasn’t doing enough to bring in subscribers.
