Criminal Minds season 13 episode 19 preview: ‘Ex Parte’; Simmons’ story

Criminal Minds season 13 episode 19 carries with it the title of “Ex Parte” — for those wondering, the definition of that means “with respect to or in the interests of one side only or of an interested outside party.” This is going to be an interesting episode, mostly because it is going to be a battle of interests — you’ve got the BAU’s interest on one side and then you’ve got the UnSub on the other. Beyond that, there is another concern here and that has to do with Matt Simmons. This is a character who has a personal investment in what is coming up, given that his wife Kristy is in some jeopardy. This episode should be a spotlight on this relationship and how much Matt’s relationship means to him.

“Ex Parte” – The BAU takes charge of a hostage situation at a law firm in D.C., where Matt Simmons’ wife, Kristy (Kelly Frye), works, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, April 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The obvious reason to be excited for this case is to see a different sort of performance for Daniel Henney, one where he can tap into a side of himself as an actor that is very much different from what we are accustomed to seeing. This should offer up some opportunities to see some emotional highs and lows for him and with that, also test him as an agent. Since he became a part of the BAU spotlight opportunities have been few and far between — we get that this is not necessarily a show that offers up a lot of that due to it being a procedural, but we do ultimately like to see however much of this that we possibly can. Anything that deepens our love for these characters is a good thing.
