SEAL Team, SWAT season 2 renewals confirmed at CBS

SEAL Team premiere ratings

There’s some great news coming in for everyone who loves both SEAL Team and SWAT — both of these shows are officially coming back on CBS for another batch of episodes.

Overall, we don’t consider either one of these renewals to be a surprise — while neither were enormous hits in live+same-day ratings, their numbers were solid and consistent. Not only that, but they also boosted the lineup around them and post great numbers in DVR and streaming. With great stars including David Boreanaz and Shemar Moore, CBS may have to series here that could stick around on the air for many years to come.

In a new statement, CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl had the following to say:

“These exciting new dramas have been sensational additions to our schedule, are striking all the right notes creatively, and really connect with our viewers … SEAL Team has strengthened our Wednesday line up – routinely winning its time period with over 10 million viewers and allowing us to build an even more powerful night, while S.W.A.T. has improved Thursday’s 10:00 PM hour by over 2.5 million viewers versus last season. Additionally, both are among the very top streamers on our digital platforms, including CBS.com and CBS All Access. We congratulate the talented casts and producers on an amazing year as we look forward to their return next season.”

Can we just stop in and say that we love Kahl’s statement? It goes beyond the boilerplate renewal announcement and it actually features some discussion on the shows’ performance and also why CBS opted to give out these renewals in the period of time in which they do.

Hopefully, both of these renewals end up being for at least 22 episodes and give the shows a chance to stick around for many years to come. This news also comes on the heels of us sharing a number of reasons as to why SEAL Team should be renewed.
