The Good Doctor season 2 premiere date hopes for Freddie Highmore, cast
The first thing worth noting, is that there will in fact be a Good Doctor season 2. This was confirmed recently by ABC, not that this renewal news was much of a surprise. While the ratings in the new year have been down versus where they were at for most of the fall, this is still one of the biggest new shows of the season. It has a devoted following already and we wouldn’t be shocked if there is some awards recognition in the future for both Freddie Highmore and Richard Schiff.
As for the premiere date itself, one of the biggest things to note is that the second season is going to be premiering in the fall. Given that this is what worked in the past, we imagine that it is going to be the same moving forward. We’re going to get a batch of episodes in the fall, but then also another arc in the winter/spring after the holiday hiatus. With there being no Winter Olympics for the 2018-19 season, we wonder if there will be fewer hiatuses overall and with that, more opportunities to see episodes one right after the next.
For now, circle the last week of September in your schedule as the likely Good Doctor premiere date; given the show’s season 1 performance there is little reason to move it off of its Monday-night timeslot. The only reason for the network to consider that is in the event that they want to use the Dancing with the Stars lead-in to launch another property to get a ratings boost similar to the one that this show had.
One way or another, ABC will likely announce the timeslot in May at their upfront presentation; from there, the premiere date will likely come this summer.
When it comes to the potential season 2 story, we just want to see Dr. Shaun Murphy continue to be tested in some interesting, surprising ways. There are likely going to be new doctors / characters who turn up, and seeing how Shaun reacts to them should prove interesting given that he is now very experienced at what he does. This isn’t the same version of the character that we saw at the start of season 1. We wouldn’t call him an elder statesman by any means, but he does have more experience under his belt than before. It really just goes without saying that we want to see Dr. Glassman stick around for a little while; hopefully this cancer diagnosis doesn’t mean that the end is near.
