Soon-to-be Grey’s Anatomy alum Sarah Drew starring in CBS’ Cagney & Lacey reboot
Less than one week after her departure from the ABC series was 100% confirmed, it has now been officially announced per Deadline that Drew now has a new potential role in CBS’ upcoming Cagney & Lacey reboot alongside Blindspot alum Michelle Hurd. Drew is going to play LAPD Detective Cagney, whereas Hurd is going to play her partner. The pilot is written by Bridget Carpenter and directed by Rosemary Rodriguez, and there’s obviously a little bit of buzz about this project.
Yet, at the same time we don’t want to sound the alarm and get too excited about this at the moment. It’s still in the pilot phase, and with the casting being so sudden it’s still not altogether easy to know a lot about the show as a whole. What we do know, though, is that CBS does do a really tremendous job at finding great properties to remake. We’ve seen this previously with them and their remakes of both Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver. On the basis of this alone, there is at least a reason for some cautious optimism that this could turn out to be an enormous hit. It’s just a little bit too early to us to say with confidence that this is going to be a runaway smash just yet.
Rest assured, though, that we’re going to have some more news on this show the moment that we’ve got them. We absolutely like the casting — Hurd has definitely cut her teeth in this genre especially, given some of her appearances on Lethal Weapon this season to go along with her Blindspot gig.
