The Resident: Has the medical drama done enough to get a season 2?
While the pilot started off to a great start in the ratings, in the weeks that followed it started to drift off. The good news it seems as though there is a consistent audience who tunes in every week. We believe that consistent ratings are better than staggered ratings. Staggered ratings are unpredictable. Television networks do not like unpredictability and if past history is any indication, they are more likely to renew shows with consistent ratings because they are reliable. Fox’s Lucifer had similar consistent ratings during its freshmen season and it was renewed. Currently shows like Lethal Weapon and The X-Files have about the same or lower ratings than The Resident so it’s staking up decently during the current television season.
In addition, this series has still so much more to give. For example, we were recently introduced to Conrad’s father and learned Nic’s sister is an ex-drug addict. While we were introduced to these pieces of the main characters’ lives, there still so much more to reveal and explore. As we have stated before, this show is not your typical medical drama because it takes a different approach to how it’s characters interact with each other. For example, unlike popular show Grey’s Anatomy, its characters aren’t from the same medical class and they aren’t friends. The Resident follows one senior resident and features everyone who make up his world like Nurse Nic, new resident Dr. Pravesh, and the other senior doctors who all have a dirty little secret. These multiple antagonist characters add something to this show that other ones are missing.
All in all, The Resident absolutely deserves a second season. There have been shows not as good as this one that have been renewed and Fox definitely has something with this one. The network advertises the show okay, but with a little more advertising and a good lead in, the show could do even better and attract more viewers. So Fox, please renew The Resident.
