Absentia season 2 filming may be coming later this year
In a recent interview over on The Atomic Podcast, Neil Jackson (who plays Jack Byrne on the series) suggested that filming for the next season come come in Bulgaria later this year. That is confirmation that production won’t be shifting from where it was for the first season. Is that confirmation of an official season 2 renewal? Not necessarily, but it’s a clear sign that it’s in the works. That is something that we’ve heard from a couple of other sources over the past few months.
One of the things that is fairly common with many studios and productions is that they’re given the go-ahead to plan for another season of the show even though it is not officially ordered as of yet. This is something that happened with Counterpart on Starz, and we’ve also heard about it with History and Knightfall. The expectation for now is that there will be more Absentia and it’s just a question of hammering out some details and getting it officially ordered.

The fact that the cast is expecting to do more of the show is a pretty clear sign that good things are coming. While the first season certainly had a story that could function very well independently, it was also pretty clear throughout that there was room for something more in the event that Sony wanted to continue things along. It’s an opportunity to really operate with a totally new set of goals — the characters are the same, but you can surround them with new circumstances.
Once we learn when Absentia season 2 actually wraps up filming, it’ll be time then to start talking about potential premiere dates. For now, it’s a little bit early to start going down that road.
