Winter Olympics 2018 Closing Ceremony: Start time for NBC broadcast

Technically, the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony in South Korea has already taken place in the middle of the night — yet, because of the time difference, NBC is going to be broadcasting it a little bit later tonight. It’s an edited version to suit the overall broadcast, but it’s going to give you most of the highlights.

The Closing Ceremony is set to officially begin at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, so be sure to either be there to watch live or set your DVR accordingly. This ceremony is effectively an opportunity to see some of the best Olympians out there celebrate their achievements — or at least however many are still in the country. We know that some don’t choose to stay for the entire games but if we were an Olympian, we’d absolutely choose to remain over there for the remainder of the Games just to celebrate every single second of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. When else are you going to get to be a part of something this incredible?

For those wondering, the flag-bearer for the Closing Ceremony for the United States is cross-country skiing great Jessie Diggins, someone who pulled off one of the most impressive victories of the entire Games. We don’t have any problem with her getting the honors, though we also would’ve been fine seeing the entire Women’s Hockey Team trade off carrying the flag after that incredible game they had against Canada — for Team USA, that is probably the Olympic moment that will be the biggest takeaway from the Games this year.

Following tonight’s ceremony, you’re going to be waiting for quite a long time in order to see the another Olympics broadcast on NBC — think in terms of the summer of 2020, when the next set of events will take place in Tokyo. After that, the 2022 Winter Games will be broadcast in Tokyo, while the 2024 Summer Games are going to be held in Paris. There is no official location just yet for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The possible locations for this Games tend to be a little less varied, mostly because there are only so many places perfectly constructed for them and, beyond that, it’s hard to do them in the Southern Hemisphere given that it’s actually summer in February there.
