Gotham season 4 episode 14 spoilers: Ivy’s next target; a surprise reunion

Gotham season 4 episode 14 carries with it the title of “Reunion,” and you absolutely have to think that there’s a reason for that. This said reason seems to be made clear in the just-released synopsis for the hour:

Ivy (guest star Peyton List) picks her next target, leading Gordon and Lucius back to an old friend, as Selina tries to take matters into her own hands. Sofia wants full control of Gotham and turns to Lee about the state of the Narrows. Meanwhile, Bruce tries to make amends with Alfred, and Nygma visits Arkham.

Who could Gordon and Lucius (nice to see Lucius get a mention in the synopsis for a change) be meeting up with? That is one of the more intriguing questions going into the episode, given that this collaboration could be key to figuring out the right way to actually stop Ivy in her tracks. One question: Are we talking about an “old friend” in the literal or ironic sense? It feels like that influences the story of this episode in a wide array of different ways.

As for everything else within this story, it seems like a bad idea for Sofia to gain full authority over Gotham — while she may not be the most physically imposing character in Gotham she is absolutely smart and capable. That makes her a threat and someone the other characters should start to fear. One of the reasons why Bruce and company probably struggled at times dealing with her in the first half was they underestimated her and though she was just someone playing a poor game of chess. As it turns out, though, she almost has many of them check-mated.

One more note about Alfred

Who else out there is going to get potentially choked-up seeing the character reunite with Bruce? That’s one of those moments that absolutely needs to happen in order for Bruce Wayne to eventually understand some of his destiny as Batman. Being a costumed hero is more than just fighting crime; it’s about working with a team and Alfred is an enormous part of that.
