Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 3 finale: What happens with Rebecca now?
One of the pivotal moments of the finale was Rebecca Bunch making the decision to throw Trent off the roof before he could kill Nathaniel. As a result of that, though, she found herself in huge trouble — to be specific, she was charged with attempted murder. Rebecca took responsibility for that amidst a sea of other things that she also claimed responsibility for all at once. She’s made amends with many different people within West Covina, but the downside of this is that she’s now in a position where she could be heading to jail for a rather long time.
In speaking a little bit more about the finale and some of the central twists here in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, show executive producer (and finale director) Aline Brosh McKinna had the following to say:
Every finale has blown something up. The end of the first season was her admitting why she came to West Covina, and then the second season was her vowing to take revenge on a man she’d been pursuing, and then this is her vowing to take responsibility. Responsibility, recovery, probably some recidivism, all those things are really interesting to us for season 4 and to see what her life is like now that the haze of the delusion is starting to lift a bit.
As of right now, it looks like a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 4, provided it happens, is going to feature predominantly Rebecca in prison. That seems like a rather depressing ending for the character, regardless of some of her faults and bad things that she’s done. With that, we’re hoping that there is a way for the series to give you at least something here that resembles happiness for Rebecca … even if we don’t know what form it will take just yet. (If you missed it, we’ve already reported some of our optimism that there will be another season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend down the road.)
