Empire season 4 spoilers: Alfre Woodard playing Cookie’s mom
According to a report from TVLine, Woodard (a recipient of numerous Emmys throughout her career) will recur through some upcoming episodes as this character, who we certainly imagine is as formidable as her daughter. The two haven’t had exactly the best relationship in the world, though this really shouldn’t come as much of a shock to anyone given that we haven’t seen Cookie’s mom on the series to date. There is obviously a reason why the character has not turned up — in general, there are traits from the parent that are passed down to the child, so you should see some of these same tendencies in Cookie’s mom that are also there in her.
Woodard of course joins the ranks of many exceptional Empire guest stars, including Demi Moore as Claudia, the infamous nurse who has landed Lucious Lyon in quite a pickle this season. This guest spot is exciting mostly because to CarterMatt Empire is a series really at its best when you throw some of its characters into situations that are a little more personal. We’ve already seen many struggles in relation to the music business, so we feel that now is the time to open things up a little bit and explore a few other avenues.

We want to see some new dimensions of Cookie than what we have seen before, potentially even some that showcase more of a vulnerable side. This appearance may open up an opportunity for this sort of thing to be possible. You know already that Taraji P. Henson is more than capable of delivering in just about any circumstance.
