Olympics 2018 Opening Ceremony start time, live stream
The start time for the Opening Ceremony is technically 6:00 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, but that also means 3:00 a.m. Pacific. That’s rough. If you want to watch it on TV, you have to be prepared to wait for a while given that NBC isn’t going to air it until Friday primetime. The coverage will start at around 8:00 p.m. Eastern time or 5:00 p.m. Pacific.
Luckily, there is another option! Across NBC’s family of apps you can live stream the Opening Ceremony when it is actually happening, including the official Olympics website. Unfortunately, there is one downside to doing this beyond having to get up ridiculously early: The live stream is not going to include some of the commentary — for that, you’ll have to wait until the actual broadcast. We suppose, though, that we should still be happy to have the live stream at all, given the fact that there have been times in the past that NBC has restricted streaming access to the Opening Ceremony in order to get more people watching the network in primetime instead. We do like this solution, for the most part: You should offer up opportunities to appeal to all audiences. We think that the majority of the people are still going to watch it in primetime, so we don’t think that the stream is going to impact things too much one way or another.
One of the other things that we are the most curious about is what the ratings for the Opening Ceremony are going to be, given that it is airing on a Friday night.
