Squarespace Super Bowl commercial 2018 features Keanu Reeves
In this article, we’re looking at web site design company Squarespace, who has a real history of churning out spots featuring either big-name stars or high concepts over the years. This year, it seems like they are actually trying to do both all at one time.
The premise – Keanu Reeves is recruited to be the star of the ad, a guy who decided to make a website all about motorcycles using Squarespace. The ad … well, it’s basically just him riding on a motorcycle in a super-strange way. This feels more like a cool gif than an ad.
Brand recognition – For a tech company, who often struggles with this, we’ll give Squarespace some credit for figuring out a way to get the brand out there for everyone to see longer than a second or two. The commercial does a good job letting consumers know what the product is.

Creativity – What we don’t quite understand is why in the world anyone is going to be more interest in Squarespace because Keanu knows how to stand on a motorcycle. This entire ad feels like a Keanu Reeves movie in that there are sure to be a ton of people who love it and proclaim it to be the best thing ever. However, there are also going to be a ton of people who simply don’t get it at all.
Our overall grade – C. We suppose this is averaging out those two groups. We see people out there really loving this ad or just thinking it’s stupid and a waste of everyone’s time. If you love the actor, maybe you love the idea.
