Suits season 9 possible, says show creator

Suits season 9

Is it possible that we could be getting a Suits season 9 in the future? While this seems so far away at the moment, it is definitely something that creator Aaron Korsh isn’t 100% ruling out.

In a new post on Twitter, Korsh makes it clear (see below) that there is a reasonable chance of doing more of the show now that a season 8 renewal is official. There are some clear challenges ahead, most notable that the series is changing course dramatically with Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle leaving. It was reported alongside the renewal that Dule Hill (Alex) is going to be promoted to series regular, which is something that we expected given his recent promotion. Meanwhile, Katherine Heigl will be joining as series regular Samantha, which is mostly interesting since 40% of the regular cast of this series now are now people who were a major part of the now-canceled CBS series Doubt.

It’s too early to us to know whether or not a Suits season 9 happens; if it does, though, it would put the series in some very rare air over at USA. Even some of the network’s most-prolific series, including Monk, Psych, Burn Notice, and Royal Pains, failed to last this long.

We figure that USA will make a decision on the future of Suits, alongside Korsh and the majority of his team, after the ratings for season 8 start to come in. It’s obviously going to be tough to replace both Adams and Markle, and it’s also tough to gauge if the entirety of the fandom is going to be willing to continue going on this ride. We hope so, but it would be foolish to sit here and proclaim that we know precisely how the bulk of the Suits fandom is going to react in advance.

Korsh noted in his Q&A session last night that the team is already working on the second episode of season 8; meanwhile, he also hoped to have official word on the Jessica Pearson spin-off soon. We imagine that one of the problems there is that USA is having to think about the show’s future without knowing how the audience feels about it. We’re not going to have a chance to see this until May.

For now, we’ve given enough trust to Korsh and the team to be psyched about a possible season 9. Of course, that could change after season 8 … but there’s no reason to think that it will.
