Agents of SHIELD season 5: Is Coulson in serious danger?

Clark Gregg leaving

What’s going on with Agents of SHIELD with this cliffhanger ending — is Coulson dying, and is Clark Gregg leaving?

As of right now, we’d like to say that this is one of those cliffhanger endings that tends to make people really worried even when they shouldn’t be. After all, haven’t we already done the whole “is Coulson dead?” thing. The guy has come back from the dead already, and we like to think of him almost as our favorite heroic cockroach. He can’t be killed off no matter how hard people may try to get rid of him!

Let’s just hope now that this narrative holds true and we get a chance to see Coulson a while longer. Phil is the constant on this show, and we’re going to miss having him around … and that’s putting it lightly … if he leaves. We’d really spend about two thirds of the next episode sobbing. The infection story has us worried, but we like to think that there’s some sort of panacea that somebody can come up with. There are smart people virtually around Coulson at all times!

Obviously, we know that there are many more key plot points from this episode beyond just Coulson’s fate. We’re also returning back to the past, though it’s not altogether certain who will be there or what the world will be like. The next part of the season will feature the much-hyped arrival of Dove Cameron also also likely introduce a few other mysterious characters and storylines.

What’s the biggest question mark for us? It really comes down to how much of this journey is worth it, and whether or not we could see the world end at this point. Has enough work been done? We hope so, but we can never be too sure with this show. It’s proven over time that it is very skilled at taking risks, which is the main reason why we’re a little fearful over Gregg’s future.
