Arrow season 6 episode 13 preview: The Cayden James showdown

Is Arrow season 6 episode 13 going to mark the end of the Cayden James arc? It’s probably a little too early to tell that at the moment, but it is clear now that the show has hit the point of no return with this character. He’s been at odds with Oliver Queen since the start of the season, and we know that he’s got a personal motivation for wanting to destroy him: What happened to his son. He’s a very different sort of adversary for Oliver given that, by and large, his motivations are different. He’s not so much interested in anything other than revenge and it definitely feels as though he’s crossed over the edge and there is no turning back.

What Oliver has to decide, in turn, is just what he is willing to do in order to ensure that Cayden James is stopped. The Arrow season 6 episode 13 synopsis below gives you a little more insight:

CAYDEN JAMES LAUNCHES A FULL OUT ATTACK – Cayden James (guest star Michael Emerson) discovers a secret about the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) that pushes him over the edge. Knowing everyone and everything he loves is in danger, Oliver must decide if he can do this alone or if he needs to turn to his old teammates for help. William (guest star Jack Moore) starts to demand more of Oliver’s time. JJ Makaro directed the episode written by Sarah Tarkoff & Emilio Ortega Aldrich (#613). Original airdate 2/8/2018.

Ultimately, we are interested in seeing this showdown, but also what lies ahead on the other side given that we’re not altogether certain that this Cayden James story arc is really working at the moment. As excellent as Emerson is — he really is excellent — it’s hard for a show like Arrow to really get down all of the intricacies of hacking. Also, we preferred the Cayden character before we knew of any personal motivation at all for him to try and take down Oliver. There is something that is enticing about the character having an air of mystery about him.
