TV Revivals (Wave 1): Chuck, Dark Matter, Dexter, Girl Meets World, Rizzoli & Isles

We’re in the month of February and that means mostly one thing: Our TV Revivals features are back! Throughout this month we’re going to discuss more if certain shows should be brought back from the dead and why — this is our third year of doing this series and we’ve always found it a fun exercise to debate some of the shows that we love and also the shows we want to see back.

We are kicking off things a little bit differently than we have in the past. To be specific, we’re going to spotlight many individual shows while also encourage audience feed back on which revivals they are the most interested in. We want this to be a more interactive article series than ever before!

Today, we’re going to spotlight our first group of five shows via some brief descriptions as to how they ended and/or where they stand, while also offering up a poll for you to pick your favorite. This poll will run from now until Thursday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific. During the next several days, we’ll write individual spotlights on all of these shows in hopes of keeping the discussion going! We want this to be fun and interactive, while also explaining relevant and topical ways in which these shows can be brought back.

Voting for TV Revivals this year is unlimited; if you are on mobile and cannot see the poll, be sure to click the view the non-AMP version of the page. The winner of this poll will face off at the end of the month against the other two upcoming weekly winners as the TV show most worthy of a revival.

The first five spotlighted shows

Chuck – The ending of the NBC series is probably best described as bittersweet. We rather liked it, but understand that there were those who wanted a little less ambiguity. (Feature piece coming February 2.)

Dark Matter – Syfy made this cancellation one of the saddest of 2017, as they opted not to give the show a season 4 even though its ratings certainly felt strong enough. We’d love to see more stories told here in some medium, even if a TV return feels unlikely. (Feature piece coming February 3.)

Dexter – We’ve written this in the past, but you know that Showtime really shouldn’t be happy with the way in which the series ended. There have been discussions about bringing the series back for years, but nothing is 100% concrete. (Feature piece coming February 4.)

Girl Meets World – The Disney Channel series was almost ultimately of just that — airing on the wrong network. Had it been given the Freeform treatment similar to some of their edgy comedies, we like to think it’d still be around. Sadly, there isn’t much movement on bringing it back. (February 5.)

Rizzoli & Isles – There haven’t been any talks about a return for the TNT drama, but there clearly should have been. We think of the Angie Harmon – Sasha Alexander series ending as the first of many questionable moves by TNT as they shift away from their established audience. (February 6.)
