Scorpion season 4 episode 15 review: Toby and Amy’s adventure

Scorpion Toby

There were many things to enjoy in regards to Scorpion season 4 episode 15, and one of the biggest things was seeing Toby go a little bit rogue. He managed to get out of the mission by citing “back pain,” and that was essential because he needed to do what he could in order to help his ex Amy. He was intent on doing what he could after Quincy pretty much screwed over Amy for her entire future. She had lost everything due in part to her marriage and wanted nothing more than to be able to emerge on the other side of it in one piece.

Luckily, over the course of this episode Toby was willing to do everything in his power to help her — probably out of guilt over what he did to destroy their relationship when they were together. What was interesting, though, was just how secretive that he was about the whole mission when he didn’t mean to be.

While seeing Toby emerging from his own life was pretty of fun, the one issue that we had with it was this: While we understand him not wanting Happy or anyone else to worry about him, at the same time he was walking a thin line here. He needs Happy to trust him and he took a risk that this was a line he couldn’t walk back.

Things went from bad to worse for Toby and Amy after they got locked in a casket together; they were eventually rescued, but not before Amy kissed him in a moment of vulnerability. Surprisingly, Toby seemed more upset about her kissing him than he did almost dying.

Given that Toby didn’t want that kiss at all, we feel like they’ll be able to get through this all right. Her larger concern was him visiting some old gambling haunts in his quest to try and help Amy. It wasn’t so much about the kiss.

The case of the week

This one isn’t all that difficult to describe — the team had to work together in order to ensure that a tsunami didn’t destroy a nuclear power plant. Happy was somewhat distracted throughout the case by what Toby was doing ghosting her out. Yet, she was still willing to risk her life in order to ensure that everyone made it out of the mission okay.

On the other side of it, she was ready to give Toby a massive piece of her mind. The other subplot in this episode was Walter and Paige arguing about the timing of their first kiss — compared to Toby getting locked in a casket with his ex (don’t call it a coffin), this really didn’t feel like that big of a deal.

CarterMatt Verdict

Scorpion season 4 episode 15 was an episode that dove into Toby’s past in an exciting and dangerous way — we don’t know how else to describe an episode in which he gets trapped in a casket. There was some comedy in here, a little bit of drama, and also a really sweet moment for Sylvester at the end of the episode where Sylvester got to meet his hero — albeit under false pretense since Cabe basically threatened him to come to the garage.
