Ratings: Did Blindspot, Agents of SHIELD, Taken capitalize on CBS hiatuses?
Unfortunately, this didn’t quite happen the way in which NBC and ABC probably wanted. Let’s go through some of these numbers and assess the good and bad.
Blindspot – While NBC notes that this was the most-watched episode of the show last night since October, we’ve come to learn over time that it is the demo rating that matters the most. With a 0.6 rating among viewers 18-49, this is actually a drop from the week before when MacGyver was actually on. We’re not sure what happened here, but it’s not great news for the series’ future. It’s still got at least a reasonable shot at coming back.
Taken – Even though we did enjoy last night’s new episode of the Clive Standen series (read our full review for it here), that doesn’t mean that we’re altogether confident in its ability to make it to a third season. A 0.5 rating in the demo isn’t great, even for a Friday show that has a little bit less in the way of expectations. We’re concerned for its future and will probably continue to be concerned for a while.
Agents of SHIELD – With a 0.6 rating in the demo, the superhero drama was mostly level with where it was the week before. We actually have been moderately impressed with the ABC show’s retention, given that its numbers have been fairly similar this year to where they were with most of season 4 following the Ghost Rider arc. Whether or not it gets renewed is mostly up to what ABC wants to do with its scripted lineup on Fridays. They were actually performing better with sitcoms and Shark Tank.
Jane the Virgin / Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – The two comedies aired together for the first time on Saturday but that didn’t necessarily equate to great numbers. The two shows stayed at their most-recent series-low ratings of 0.2.
Basically, the moral to this story is rather simple: Apparently, MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0, and Blue Bloods viewers aren’t flocking elsewhere just because their shows are not on.
