Shadowhunters season 3 trailer analysis: Lilith is here

Shadowhunters season 3 trailer

The latest Shadowhunters season 3 trailer is now online, and it’s pretty darn clear that there is some serious danger afoot. Just because one villain is gone doesn’t mean that there is suddenly peace. As a matter of fact, things at the New York Institute are about to be crazier than they’ve ever been.

The latest trailer (see below) offers up what is your most-substantial look to date at Lilith, the “mother of demons” (is that similar to the Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones?) who seems ready to do a couple of different things. For starters, she seems very much intent on reviving her son. We have a hard time thinking that Will Tudor is gone from this show forever, so that’s one thing to be worried about. Beyond that, you’ve also got the possibility that she unites most demons in the world and poses a far more unified, dangerous threat than what the Institute has faced to date. She’s powerful, she’s influential, and she’s not brash in the way that some previous adversaries are.

To sum all of that up, don’t expect Clary to have a lot of time to do a victory lap.

As for some other notable moments in here, we get to see more of the (younger) Seelie Queen, something is terribly wrong with Jace, and Magnus does his part to make it clear just how much danger everyone is in.

This Shadowhunters trailer should help to set the stage for the show’s March return, which we hope gets plenty of promotion and pretty-great ratings to go along with it. One of the catalysts is going to be Anna Hopkins of Arrow fame, who is coming aboard the series in the aforementioned role of Lilith. If she can really bring out the best / worst that this character has to offer, we’re in for a wild ride. There are twenty episodes to come in season 3; the second half of the season is currently shooting, and we hope there’s a chance to check that out a little bit later in the year.
