NCIS season 15 episode 13 review: Was Vance’s daughter a thief?
Ever since McGee’s twins were born we’ve been dying to see what kind of dad he’s going to be as well as get some updates on how the family is doing. Last week on NCIS we had a small catch up with them as McGee shared some photos of the twins and revealed that their personalities could not be more different. With a show like this that deals with deaths, various crimes and other dark content, we love these moments where we can see the team smiling over the cutest babies on the planet.
While there was plenty of McGee on NCIS season 15 episode 13, we regret to inform you that there wasn’t too much of a mention of the twins. Instead, this storyline tonight had Tim hitting the road in order to figure out the best possible way to find a family who decided to skip down the moment that he determined that they were involved in a case. A teenager had apparently witnessed a murder, and her parents didn’t want to stick around with her long enough to have to answer any questions.
So why did this family pick up the daughter and run away? It’s because she was not actually their daughter at all. Her father basically just took her one day when she was little; when law enforcement was sniffing around her, they made the decision to try and escape. A criminal record kept him from being able to properly adopt her.

This was a complicated case given that these parents weren’t necessarily terrible people; they just wanted to give this young lady a good life. They just made some huge mistakes along the way, but they were willing to give up their whole life for the sake of having her around. The biological father eventually did surface, and that proved problematic just because of the fact that he was contemplating suing the “adoptive” parents for taking her. She had to convince him not to go through with that.
The emotional story of Leon Vance
It was pretty easy to feel for Vance in this episode, mostly given the fact that he was coming to grips with the arrest of her daughter for shoplifting. He was upset about the arrest, but beyond that he was even more upset over his daughter not telling him why. Trying to get her to open up to him with the truth was no easy task for him, but in the end, he did figure it out … and how this was tied in some way to her trying to help a friend (who had two different charges to her name and couldn’t risk a third). She was a good person, but she had her own reasons and valued some of that over telling her father the truth.
What Vance learned tonight was understanding — sometimes you have to figure out how to be patient and how to show care. It’s not always about using the same skills you use on the job at home.
CarterMatt Verdict
NCIS season 15 episode 13 was an interesting story, one that we would describe as a tale of family and how far some will go for those they care about.
