America’s Got Talent alum Preacher Lawson gives advice for season 13 auditions
Just in case you are looking for a little more courage to try out this year, may we over some via Preacher Lawson. The comedian made it all the way to the top ten, and did so with big physical humor, character work, and comedy writing that appealed to the vast majority of the country. We do think that he is easily one of the best comedians to appear on the show.
We recently asked Preacher what advice he would give any potential season 13 contestants, and he had the following to pass along:
“People’s biggest downfall is that they overthink it. I didn’t overthink it at all. I just went out and had fun. The only time I was nervous was the first time, but that was right before I got out on stage. Then, I was fine. [Other than that], every time I auditioned I just went up and did my thing. I can only do my best. Just do you. I know how cliche it sounds, but just be yourself. If you make it past auditions not being yourself, then you’re hiding who you are and you [really] got a problem. You can’t be you. I was being me and I was having fun. That’s my advice.”
For more on what Preacher is working on right now, including the evolution of his comedy and the impact that the show has had on his career, check back next week for our full interview! We wanted to give you a small taste of it a little early just in case you were interested in trying out for the upcoming season.
We’ll of course have even more coverage on America’s Got Talent season 13 over the course of the spring, leading up to the show’s premiere this summer.
