Hawaii Five-0 season 8 burning question: Where are Steve and Danny’s girlfriends?

Who is ready for another Hawaii Five-0 burning question? This is something that we like to take on every now and then based on questions that we often receive and this one is pretty simple: Where are Steve and Danny’s girlfriends? Are Lynn and Melissa even still in the picture?

At the moment, here is what we know: In an episode airing in November, we had what amounted to a brief reference to Steve and Danny’s significant others. Given that nobody else has really come into the picture between the Valentine’s Day episode last year (pictured above) and right now, it’s hard to assume that someone else has come into the picture. This, at least from our vantage point, means that Steve and Danny are still in relationships.

So why don’t we see Lynn and Melissa more, let alone hear about them? There are a few different explanations that you can make.

1. Sarah Carter and Lili Simmons are only available so much – Both are busy, and Simmons is just coming off of a big arc on Ray Donovan. It’s hard to find a way to make guest spots on Hawaii Five-0 work schedule-wise, mostly because you have to get everyone out to Hawaii at the right time.

2. There needs to be right story – After all, you don’t want to bring these characters back for the first time in a year unless they have something very specific to do. It has to be worth their time, and since Hawaii Five-0 is a police show about a specific Task Force, it’s hard to find a use for a group of actors.

3. Hey, love interests are polarizing – We’ve seen this before with so many Hawaii Five-0 relationships over the years. Some viewers love them, and other viewers don’t want to see them. A great example of that is the reaction that is still out there to Catherine. Sometimes it’s better to not include these love interests too much unless the story is perfect for them — though we also think that they could be referenced a little more than they are.
