Supergirl season 3 exec hoping for Floriana Lima return as Maggie

Could Floriana Lima return to Supergirl season 3 down the road? While it’s possible, at the moment nothing is confirmed. We’ve heard a continuous stream of rumors for the better part of a good month now, but now those are rumors and nothing more. We’re not in the business of cultivating false home so we don’t want to pass any along.

Yet, there are two things that are very much worth remembering for those of you asking questions as to if we could see the Maggie Sawyer character again. For one, Lima has stated in the past that she is interested in coming back. While she wants to take on some different challenges right now (she recently appeared on Fox’s Lethal Weapon), that does not necessarily negate her ability to come back in a different role in the future. So long as there is a way to work the story and the scheduling out, we do think that Lima will be back in some capacity eventually. Patience is the a key virtue here.

The other reason to think that Lima could return is based on a recent tweet from Supergirl / Arrowverse executive producer Greg Berlanti, who noted in the midst of a discussion about Maggie’s importance to the show that he would “love nothing more” than to have Lima back on the show. Consider this another reminder that the appreciation for the character is mutual and there is a perfectly good reason to think that the character could turn up again down the line.

So what would be the perfect venue to bring Maggie back?

Obviously “anytime” works as an answer, but if we were to get specific it would be fun to see her in one of the first episodes when Supergirl returns from its upcoming hiatus in April. (Most of the episodes leading up to hiatus area already well in production / the writing process.) Beyond that, you could bring her back for the finale and have things work in a very full-circle manner. While Maggie and Alex may be keeping their distance right now, we have a hard time thinking that they are never going to speak again. There are many tangible reasons to think that we will see the two back in each other’s orbit, especially given their lines of work.
