Could Hetty actually die on NCIS: Los Angeles season 9?

Could Hetty die

Could Hetty die on NCIS: Los Angeles season 9? We were absolutely worried going into Sunday’s new episode, but let’s just say that we are now even more nervous than ever before regarding the character’s future.

The good news is that, coming out of this episode, Linda Hunt’s character is still alive. The bad news? She’s upped the ante when it comes to violence, and sooner or later we’re going to see captors start to run out of patience. As a result of that, we could easily see someone taking Hetty out or at least trying to.

Will Sam, Callen, Deeks, and Kensi make it to Vietnam in time to save her? That’s the question that you have to wonder going into the hiatus.

For the time being, our inclination is to think that one way or another, we’re going to see Hetty make it out of this situation in one piece. The biggest reason for that is simply because of the fact that Hetty has already been put through the wringer. For the better part of the past 13 episodes we’ve seen this character be tormented and put through hell. After all of that, the one thing that we think we need more than anything is a chance to breathe. We need to be able to see some steps in the right direction; if Hetty was to be killed off on the other side of this we imagine there would be a revolt.

Can we see things changing for Hetty and being different than who she was before her capture? Sure, but killing her off could be the show going a little too much beyond the pale.

The only reason that the writers could possibly want to kill Hetty off is simple: They want to really surprise fans and make them think that nobody is safe. We do understand the sentiment behind that logic, but at the same time there’s not all that much of a reason to go to this drastic a measure with this show. The goal of NCIS: Los Angeles shouldn’t be to constantly stress you out over the fate of its main characters. Instead, it should be to give its viewers a (relative) level of comfort; keep them on their toes, but don’t break their hearts in the process.
