TV Underdogs: The future for Lucas Black as Christopher LaSalle on NCIS: New Orleans

Lucas Black

What’s coming up for Lucas Black’s NCIS: New Orleans character of Christopher LaSalle? There are certainly a wide array of different directions in which the CBS show could take this character, and in this edition of our CarterMatt TV Underdogs series the goal is to try and pinpoint some of them.

Let’s start here by saying that so far through season 4, the writers have done a good job of highlighting him in a wide array of ways — we’ve seen him alongside Percy, being front and center on some cases, and also deal with some issues pertaining to family. Yet, there’s always room to speculate on some more possibilities! As a part of our ongoing TV Underdogs series, we’ve come up with five fun ways in which NCIS: New Orleans could continue to give LaSalle some more time in the spotlight.

1. See more of his law-enforcement past – What were some of the early days like for LaSalle on the job, and what made him as exceptional at his job as he is? This is a man who has a lot of confidence and swagger, but one of the fun things about people in general is that almost all of them had at one point or another an extremely-awkward phase where they were not anywhere near as good at their job. We all started at the bottom.

2. A step forward for Percy and LaSalle – Obviously, the City Mouse and Country Mouse have good chemistry with each other, but they decided for now not to pursue anything more. Yet, is this decision going to stay this way forever? By the end of this season we’d like to see potentially a different decision explored. We’re four seasons in at this point and this could be a great time to feature a different stage of the relationship.

3. A case with personal implications – Maybe something happens to one of LaSalle’s old friends, or maybe he himself ends up in a different sort of life-or-death situation than he’s used to. Any opportunity to give Lucas Black material where he can be vulnerable is a must.

4. A new undercover case – Obviously, going undercover is what any actor loves to do since they can play different iterations of themselves in the process.

5. More scenes with Pride – While Black and Scott Bakula obviously have a lot of screen time together already, there’s something interesting about a case that potentially separates the two from the rest of the team and forces them to work together — especially if they’re forced to use some skills that are outside of their comfort zone.

NCIS: New Orleans airs Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern on CBS.
