Deadwood movie filming could start in fall 2018
Granted, we should be careful here to note that a Deadwood movie is not necessarily a sure thing. Our excitement is just rolling on another level because some of the issues that were slowing this down now seemed to be worked out. The next order of business is finding out a time in which everyone in the cast is actually available. Many of the original series actors are now regulars on other shows and with that, filming has to take place at a time when they can go back and reprise their old roles for one final time. We know that Timothy Olyphant has the Santa Clarita Diet on the go, Ian McShane has been busy with American Gods.
In speaking a little bit more on this subject (per TVLine) while at TCA, HBO head Casey Bloys made it clear that they were inching so much closer to the Deadwood movie starting this fall:
“A lot of things have to come together to get it right … But I’m very optimistic about a Fall 2018 production [start]… if we can get all the actors back together.”
If the Deadwood movie just so happens to film this fall, we imagine that it could premiere at some point in 2019 — which is turning out to be one of the biggest years ever for HBO as a whole. Think about it this way — they have the final season of Game of Thrones alongside True Detective season 3, and presumably this is when Big Little Lies could be ready unless the show is able to turn around filming quickly enough for it to premiere this fall. Either way, 2019 is going to be a STACKED year for HBO, and this is leading up to a potential Game of Thrones spin-off that could come on the air in 2020.
