How Grey’s Anatomy season 14 goes into the depths of Jo Wilson – Paul Stadler abuse

Grey's Anatomy season 14

When Grey’s Anatomy season 14 airs on ABC Thursday night, it is going to do so with a very powerful, gut-wrenching, and timely episode. At the center of it will be the Jo Wilson – Paul Stadler crisis, one that is born out of Jo deciding to finally divorce her estranged and long-abusive husband. Paul was able to find her as a result of this, and she is now facing a dangerous, difficult situation.

We hope that Jo will make it out of the crisis okay, but we have a definite reason to be worried. The’s upcoming episode’s new title, a reference to an important hotline for domestic-abuse victims, is a pretty big signal of that.

What you also should know is this: Grey’s Anatomy season 14 isn’t going to tie up the entire Jo – Paul situation in the first episode back. This is going to take at least two episodes to cover this, as star Kevin McKidd explained recently to Entertainment Weekly:

“The next two episodes get to a very dark and intense place, but it deals with it and kind of resolves the whole story in a beautiful and redemptive way … People step up for Jo because everyone loves Jo. But it’s interesting because Paul is a kind of like a conman and he has incredible skills of persuasion, so there are twists and turns along that road where people start going, ‘Wait, his version of things seem kind of plausible,’ so it’s really interesting depicting and telling that story of somebody who is a deeply manipulative person.”

The idea that someone at Grey Sloan would consider Paul’s version of events plausible is horrifying, but that is in part what this story is: It’s a real American horror story of a man who clearly got away with far too much and no one has been able to put a stop to it. Our hope with this storyline is that the writers can find a way to turn Jo’s story into a message of strength, and that she will find the power within herself to make sure he never comes near her again.
