Why weren’t The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow renewed today?
So is The Flash renewed for season 5, and for whatever reason The CW chose not to actually announce it? The answer to that is no. This isn’t one of those situations where the network quietly renewed this or some of the other shows and are saving the announcement for a later date.
Instead, it just seems like there is more work to be done this year to ensure that The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow get the additional seasons that they deserve. It doesn’t seem as though there is any ambiguity on the subject of the shows’ future.
Speaking (per Entertainment Weekly) at the TCA Winter Press Tour panel event for all of these shows, programming head Mark Pedowitz confirmed that there are plans to bring many of these series back for more. Yet, there are some other things that need to be worked out:
“At the moment, it’s a little too soon … We’re noted for announcing at winter TCA that we’re picking up shows, we just weren’t ready to do that yet. A couple more weeks [and] we’ll probably get around to it. I’m pretty confident we’ll see them all back.”

As for one of the things that is apparently holding up the renewals, one of the biggest ones is probably just where Arrow is in its run right now. While there may be some actors signed on for season 7, that doesn’t mean that everyone is. The longer shows go in their run – the more negotiations need to be had. We don’t think any of the behind-the-scenes changes have anything to do with the wait; the firing of Andrew Kreisberg had zero impact on the ratings and all of these shows are capable of being stronger than they’ve ever been.
