Vikings season 5 spoilers: Clive Standen officially returning
So when will Rollo be returning? Well, there’s no precise episode confirmed by History — IMDb credits Standen for appearing in the upcoming 13th episode, but we tend to not treat IMDb listings all the time as fact. Let’s consider this, for the time being, to be the like time in which he returns. (Given that this is a part of the second half of season 5, there’s no precise word as of yet as to when it will air.)
According to TV Guide (who confirmed Standen’s return), we are going to see Standen return as a very different person than he was when we last saw him on season 4. That’s pretty expected given that he now has a title: The Duke of Normandy. He’s powerful, political, and he has the confidence of knowing his power. He effectively can turn the tide of the entire war that is brewing between Lagertha and her army and Ivar and his.
As you would expect, Rollo is going to have a choice as to who he wants to side with. From one vantage point, he has a very clear history with Lagertha, both for better and for worse. There are reasons to work with her, but also reasons to work against her. Odds are, feelings towards both her and Ragnar are all messed up in his mind. With Ivar, it may be a little bit simpler given that he doesn’t have that same sort of connection with him. Yet, if Ivar makes the right offer or allows Rollo the chance at more power, isn’t he as good a candidate as any?
