New tonight (December 26): Major Crimes, Kennedy Center Honors, Charlie Brown – Rudolph New Year specials

December 26 isn’t exactly known as a banner night in television programming — it’s one of the busier travel days of the year, and also the day when many people are off enjoying their CHristmas presents and ignoring everyone after spending the past 24 hours with friends and family. Watching television, at least for many people, is not exactly a top priority.

Nonetheless, there are a few different things worth watching if you are interested and eager enough to find some room in your schedule.

Major Crimes (9:00 p.m. Eastern, TNT) – One of the only shows to air new episodes tonight, though much of the reason for that seems to be TNT not showing a whole lot of interest at all in actually supporting it after so many years. We love the series, but we admit that the final arc leaves a weird pit in our stomach knowing that it is happening without (spoiler alert!) Sharon Raydor around. Kennedy Center Honors (9:00 p.m., CBS) – It’s one of the more notable ceremonies that CBS broadcasts all year, though this time around most of the headlines have drawn from the notable absence of President Trump from the event’s filming. The honorees for this year include Norman Lear, newly-minted American Idol judge Lionel Richie, NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J, and many others.

Happy New Year, Charlie Brown (8:00 p.m., ABC) – One of the lesser-known Charlie Brown holiday specials, but still worthwhile if you want to give your kids something to do while you try to clean up the house.

Rudolph’s Shiny New Year (9:00 p.m., ABC) – Also known as the Rudolph special you probably have never heard of. It’s just that the new year doesn’t quite generate the same sort of festivity as Christmas. How can it when the international symbol for it is effectively an alcoholic beverage in champagne?
