The Fosters season 5 spoilers: What’s coming for Mariana and Mat?

The relationship between Mariana and Mat on The Fosters is one that, (time and time again) has gone through highs and lows. They’ve loved each other, grown frustrated with each other, and been apart over the years. Obviously, you’d love for them to just make a decision as to whether or not they can be together, but reality doesn’t quite work that way. Sometimes, there are other factors that get in the way and often self-doubt rears its ugly head making things way more difficult then it really needs to be. The reality we have to remember is that they’re young. These two characters are going to continue to have highs and lows and will probably continue to do so.

Yet, CarterMatt can tell you that Mariana and Mat will try to make a decision that sticks on the upcoming January 30 episode of the series entitled “Third Wheels.” As per Freeform, the couple is set to “make a huge decision about the future of their relationship” by the end of the hour. What does that mean? It could be some sort of romantic commitment (isn’t it a little early for a proposal, though?) or just a decision that they are going to go their separate ways for good. One of the things that complicates this decision is that there are a few episodes still to air before we even get around to January 30 — there’s a lot that could happen between now and then that influences the decision one way or another.

As for what else is coming up in this episode, be prepared to see Brandon and Grace do their best to have some fun courtesy of a senior prank. Isn’t that exciting? In theory sure, but there are some unexpected consequences to it that we’re probably going to see play out. Given what we’ve come to learn about Grace and her illness we’re going to be pretty worried about her throughout the entire second half of the season. We want to see her make it through but, suffice it to say, we’re feeling pretty nervous right now.
