The Bachelor spotlight: Could publicist Becca Kurfin get engaged?
Why is that? When you think in general about top Bachelor contenders, they tend to fall within a similar group. They are often not the youngest contestants, but they’re also not the oldest. While there are exceptions and outliers, most tend to fall within the 25-29 group. Also, they tend to have some sort of stable job. Last year Vanessa Grimaldi was a special education teacher, while Lauren Bushnell the year before that was a flight attendant and Whitney Bischoff was a fertility nurse and Nikki Ferrell a pediatric nurse. Catherine Giudici, the only one of these women who is still with her Bachelor, was a graphic designer when she came on the show. The last time there was a winner with an nontraditional job on The Bachelor was back during season 16 in 2012 when Courtney Robertson (a model) ended up winning Ben Flajnik’s season and we all know how that turned out.
Becca, clearly, has a stable job — her LinkedIn profile shows that she works for a technology company. She has something else in common with all of the women mentioned (minus Courtney) in that she’s not from Los Angeles. While there are typically a few LA contestants a season, they rarely win — possibly due to cynical connections to the entertainment business. Becca went to school in Minnesota and still works there, which clearly means that if she and Arie work things out that there will be a commute for a little while.
From her Instagram alone you get a good sense that most of Bachelor Nation will like her — there are a lot of pictures of dogs, cats, and nature. It’s not one of those accounts full of party pictures that strongly suggest that it’ll become a funnel for advertising after the show. She seems to be reasonably down to Earth and normal for a contestant on this show. Her bio also pretty much reflects that — she loves popcorn and country music, but how in the world does she write that she can’t live without stamps? Stamps? Maybe she’s a collector since we only think about stamps around this time of year when we are sending out holiday cards.
How will Becca Kurfin fare with Arie? – She’s firmly in that camp of “she’ll either go far or be eliminated night one.” If he’s not interested in her we don’t see her being one of those crazy contestants who sticks around to throw shade at other people; we also don’t see her being the token recipient of house drama. She’s got a good chance just because she has a vibe that feels like she really wants love out of the show and, thanks to her job, should be personable and engaging enough to survive in this competitive atmosphere.
