The 100 season 5 not meant to be final season
In a new post on Twitter, showrunner Jason Rothenberg (who has been much more active on there as of late) made it clear that he is open to doing a sixth season of the show. The only way to make that happen, though, is for the fans to continue to watch season 5 when it airs in the new year. Given that there is no clear premiere date as of yet, the clear assumption is that we’re going to be stuck waiting until February or March, at earliest, to see the fifth season play out. That’s a pretty long period of time in order to wait.
As for whether or not we see a season 6 renewal playing out based on the show’s most-recent ratings averages, it really is a toss-up. The fourth season only averaged a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which puts The 100 on the low end of The CW’s shows. The only programs that the network have that routinely perform worse are Valor (which is sure to be canceled), Dynasty (which got 22 episodes but could still be canceled) and the Friday lineup of Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Interestingly, The CW fares slightly better than most of the CW shows that come from CBS TV Studios, but slightly worse than most of the stuff coming in from Warmer Bros. TV. (CBS and Warner Bros. are the two studios who are equal partners in the network.) The 100 probably needs to pull in similar ratings to season 4 in order to have a chance at coming back; if it does fall more in the 18-49 demographic it wouldn’t be all that big of a surprise to see it canceled in the end.
What we’re trying to tell you here in this article is relatively simple: If you love The 100, you should continue to find ways to watch the show live. Otherwise, you are running the risk that season 5 will be the show’s last no matter what Rothenberg and the rest of the writers want to do.
