Who, or what, is The Originals season 5 Big Bad?
There haven’t been too many details out there on this subject just yet, but what we can hand down about The Originals season 5 Big Bad at the moment is that it’s going to be a little bit different than anything you’ve experienced before. It may not even be a person. Speaking per TVLine, show executive producer Julie Plec had the following to say about what we’re going to see:
“The Big Bad this year is launched from an ideology more so than one singular person’s nefarious desire … It’s an ideology that was spawned almost a century ago, a movement that has been simmering and stewing over that century. It does have a personal connection to the Mikaelson family, but it also has a thematic resonance that is very timely.”
Basically, we feel like there’s going to be some relevance between what’s happening on The Originals and what’s going on in the present and that’s interesting — after all, that is certainly very different from anything that we’ve seen on the show in the past.
No matter who the villain for The Originals season 5 is, that almost doesn’t matter as much as one other thing: The desire for closure, and to tie up all of the loose ends that are out there about some of these characters. We need to see relationships, stories, and major mythology points wrapped up. While there has been talk of a possible spin-off featuring the older version of Hope, there hasn’t been any movement on that concept in a long time. With that, we have to go ahead and assume that the end of The Originals is going to be the end of the franchise at large. There’s a lot of story that the show is going to have to deal with as a result of that.
