Criminal Minds season 13 episode 10: Lou Diamond Phillips guest stars
CBS has confirmed that Longmire alum Lou Diamond Phillips (by the way, we miss Longmire already) has been brought on board to guest star in this episode as Sheriff Clifford. For more details about the case itself, CarterMatt has the full synopsis for you below:
“Submerged” – When a series of backyard pool homicides are reported in California, the BAU team searches for an UnSub with a puzzling past, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Jan. 3 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Lou Diamond Phillips guest stars as Sheriff Clifford.
Criminal Minds season 13 episode 10 is going to be a big episode and will be kicking the new year off right. After a few weeks off, you want to give the fans a reason to be excited and bringing on an actor that people love is a great way to do that. Beyond of course his recent run on Longmire as Henry Standing Bear you’ve also likely seen him on such shows as Hawaii Five-0 and Blindspot. Hopefully, we’ll see him land another major arc or series-regular gig in the near future.
What makes Phillips a great guest star for the Criminal Minds world is that he plays ambiguity better than almost anyone. We’ve seen him play the good guy in Longmire and other shows, but we know that he’s capable of darker roles — it wouldn’t surprise us at all if the Sheriff ends up being the UnSub based on his acting arsenal! It’s also just fun to see Phillips playing the Sheriff on this show after playing the Sheriff’s best friend on Longmire for so many years.
As for why Criminal Minds is not on the air tonight, that’s a great question for CBS executives. We know that it’s off next week thanks in part to the two-hour Survivor finale plus the hour-long reunion show. That’s something that happens every season.

Well, Lou Diamond Phillips is a great actor. Criminal Minds need great actors added in to bring a spark back to the eyes of the viewers. I have been abundantly clear that I, along with others, need and want to see Thomas Gibson return. Sparks are not going to fly until the patriarch of this show returns. Ratings are flying a little low according to the numbers. It has been since Season 12, episode 3. Just like the rap song stated, “Aaron Hotchner, bring us back….” “Wheels up!.”?
