Is Johnny Galecki returning for the Roseanne revival?
In a recent Instagram story show executive producer Whitney Cummings effectively confirmed that Galecki, (now a part of The Big Bang Theory), will be reprising his role as David for at least one episode of the ABC series. This is a move that has been in discussions since over the summer, with the only thing holding it back seemingly being Galecki’s work on the CBS show. His availability was always going to be limited, but it’s still nice to get Johnny on board the show for an appearance so that everyone can have an opportunity to see just how far the character has come since his last appearance on the show.
ABC recently added another episode to the order for the Roseanne revival, and the objective here seems to be to capture some of the same lightning in a bottle that NBC has with Will & Grace. While the ratings for Will & Grace have not necessarily been through the roof, the return has been beloved by critics and many cast members are now favored to be nominated at the upcoming Golden Globes. Roseanne was at one point one of the most popular and influential sitcoms of all time; we’re not as confident that it will play well in today’s world as Will & Grace has, but time will tell. At least the producers on the series behind the scenes have done an exemplary job of bringing back many of the key players viewers loved. Had they faltered with some of these it would certainly be a lot harder to sell the revival as necessary.
The Roseanne revival officially begins in 2018 — we’ll be watching closely to see what both the ratings and reviews are as we determine if this is a revival that could actually stick around for a little while. For the record, NBC has already given another season to their Will & Grace revival.
What do you think about Johnny Galecki returning to Roseanne? Are you bummed that it’s only going to be for a short period of time? Be sure to share some of your thoughts now in the comments!
