Suits season 7: USA confirms Meghan Markle’s exit in statement
“From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement. Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best.”
It may seem unusual for a network to release a statement about an actor leaving a show, but in some cases it’s really not. NBC recently did something similar when Ryan Eggold exited The Blacklist at the end of the fall finale — it doesn’t just take getting engaged to a member of the British Royal Family to get executives to speak on your behalf. The circumstances here are obviously what makes it different, as does the fact that we know about this exit before it happens on the show. There are still six episodes left on the season featuring Markle and we do have to think that USA is going to use the engagement as a promotional tool in some shape or form. Why wouldn’t they? There is such curiosity all over the world in matters pertaining to the Royals that it makes perfect sense for the network to use this.
Suits season 7 is going to premiere at some point in 2018, and part of the fun of what lies ahead is clearly that you’re going to have a chance to see Markle get married presumably both in real life and as her character. Rachel Zane and Mike Ross are expected to be married by the end of the season, which also makes some sense given that Patrick J. Adams is also set to leave the show at the end of the season per reports.
Below, you can also see a brief statement from show creator Aaron Korsh, who helped to bring Markle’s character to life.
