Chicago Med season 3 on set: Torrey DeVitto, Nick Gehlfuss on Natalie, Will’s future
While on set last month for the One Chicago Day press tour, series star Nick Gehlfuss confirmed that they are “definitely exploring the Manstead relationship,” and you are going to see some possible conflicts emerge over the next few weeks as they come to terms with what is a very different working dynamic.
There will be struggles, and Torrey DeVitto effectively confirms that: “Being in a relationship is not easy. They’ll definitely show a lot of that.” Some of the problems here could include the perception among some other doctors at the hospital and also possible disagreements as to how to handle various cases. There are higher stakes presumably now than there were before, given that the two of them do have to deal now with some concerns that their personal life could impact their judgment or how they choose to handle some difficult cases that they tackle. Hopefully, they’ll be able to make it through okay but we’ve come to learn with this franchise over time that there are no guarantees.
There are some other interesting dynamics that could be explored with the two outside of the hospital — take, for example, seeing Jay Halstead around them and how he would respond to the two of them being together. Gehlfuss has said time and time again that he would love to work with Jesse Lee Soffer as often as possible, so there are some big story opportunities here. (Gehlfuss did previously make a cameo on Chicago PD this season, but it was a brief one and was about mostly making sure viewers remembered that Chicago Med and this world is out there.)

For Jay Halstead to stay far away from Med.
