Deadwood movie at HBO could start filming in fall 2018
Then, something changed. Original showrunner David Milch started to work on a script and while the movie still has yet to be ordered, it appears as though everyone is getting set to get back in the saddle one last time in order to see the show off into the sunset.
According to a report from TVLine, there are plans being put in place at the moment to start production on a Deadwood farewell movie, one designed to tie together many of the biggest loose ends from the show, at some point in the fall of 2018. If this movie comes together at around that time it could feasibly be airing on the network around two years from now. Many of the primary cast members from the show would be expected to return and we imagine that the ratings for the movie would be pretty incredible. One of the biggest things that you do have to remember with a show like Deadwood is that it is up there with Futurama as one of those great shows that developed the majority of its audience after its original run of episodes came to a close. It hasn’t actually been tested yet with the viewership and the fan base that it has now.
Here’s the moment that will make every fan reading this article realize just how long it’s been off the air – The last episode of Deadwood aired on HBO in 2006 — more than a decade ago. It’s crazy to think about, but it really has been that long since we had a chance to dive into new episodes of this show.
If this show can come back so many years after the fact, it really does give a lot of hope to other shows that have been out of commission for a long time.
What is your take on a Deadwood movie — do you think that it could somehow live up to the near-impossible expectations that are out there given just how long ago this show aired? Share in the comments below!
