Blue Bloods season 8 episode 7 preview: Why is Danny lashing out?

Blue Bloods season 8

Blue Bloods season 8 episode 7 is airing on CBS on Friday night, and for Danny Reagan this may be his most difficult case of the season. Not only that, but this may be his most difficult case since the death of his wife Linda.

In the sneak preview you get a reasonably good sense as to why that is. There is a nurse who is in desperate need to help, and Danny believes he knows the person responsible — an ex-boyfriend showing a pattern of horrible violence. He was brought in the first time, but the judge decided to let him back out on the street. According to Danny, he then tried to run her off the road. His fury seems to have no limit — he’s angry at the judge, the legal system, the attacker, and even Erin. She is the person sitting in front of him, so she is of course getting the brunt of his rage. He doesn’t understand why others are not viewing the case as seriously as he is.

Danny, unfortunately, is just not looking at the case through the same lens as everyone else. Erin is treating the case seriously, but she realizes that there are proper channels you need to go through! You cannot just book this guy when the nurse couldn’t ID him for the second attack — the more you go after him using improper means, the more you run the risk of consequences that could ruin the case.

Clearly, (and understandably) Danny is biased when it comes to helping this woman. Linda was a nurse, and since he was unable to protect her in her moment of crisis he now finds himself trying to make up for it. He wants to help this new victim and feels like nobody else will. Sooner or later in this case, he needs to realize that the best thing he can do is let the process take its course — give her police detail to ensure that she is safe, but don’t do anything to jeopardize the investigation.

Donnie Wahlberg is in the midst of his best season yet as this character; as a result of that, there is little reason to think that tonight’s episode will be nothing short of fantastic for him performance-wise.

Another sneak preview

This time around, the focus is on Frank Reagan as we’re meant to ponder whether or not the opinions of a longtime acquaintance are distorting his view on an inmate’s death. If the perception is out there that Frank is compromised, it could prove dangerous for the entire NYPD.

There are some very clear mirrors between this storyline and what is going on with Danny. On both cases these two men are letting external factors get in the way of getting the job done. The main difference here is that in this case, Frank is learning that trusting this said acquaintance may be coming back to bite him.
