Chicago Justice alum Monica Barbaro lands lead role in Netflix’s The Good Cop
Former Chicago Justice star Monica Barbaro didn’t waste a whole lot of time securing her next big TV gig and we couldn’t be happier for her!
So where’s she going next? Think along the lines of Netflix! Per a new report coming in now via Deadline, Barbaro is going to appear on the upcoming ten-episode Netflix series The Good Cop in the role of Cara Vasquez. She’s described as being a street smart and confident detective who works on the show’s All-City Homicide Task Force. She’s a little bit of a rebel in that she’s not afraid of breaking the rules here or there to get the job done.
Barbaro’s character is going to be partnered up with a man named TJ Caruso, someone who is a little more used to following the letter of the law. If you’re wondering where some of the conflict for this show is going to come, that’s probably it. One of the things that is certainly appealing about The Good Cop as a show right now is its cast — you’ve got the legendary Tony Danza appearing in the lead role, and then beyond that you’ve also got singer Josh Groban playing his son. Seeing Groban full-time in a scripted TV series is as much of a surprise as anything.
This show is obviously still in the early stages, but it’s nice to see that it’s assembling a cast of pretty well known names. Filming for this show is going to begin in New York a little bit later this year, and with that in mind we definitely envision that a premiere date at some point in 2019 is possible.
For Barbaro, this role comes after she made an appearance earlier on this season of Chicago PD as her old Chicago Justice character of Anna Valdez. Prior to taking on this part she was well known for playing investigative journalist Yael on the second season of Lifetime’s UnREAL. Based on the timing of The Good Cop filming it seems unlikely that we’re going to be seeing coming back to do some other work in the Dick Wolf franchise in the immediate future.
