Does Dynasty full-season pickup impact The 100 season 5 premiere date?
Why is this important to them? Female viewers. The CW, (from its onset) was a network that long had a devoted audience of women in the 18-49 demographic. In recent years the show’s drifted more from that with the abundance of DC superhero shows (programs like Supernatural always had a nice mixture of male and female viewers). With this lineup (and the Friday block with Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), the network should have a lineup that they feel works well for them.
Now that we have spelled out all of this, what does this news mean for The 100 season 5 premiere date? Well, this is where things get complicated.
For a while now we’ve assumed that the latest season of that show would be coming on the air on Wednesdays — probably mistakenly so, but it’s aired at that spot in the past. What could happen instead is that the show could replace Valor on Monday nights after Supergirl or, heaven forbid, air on Friday nights — this is a time that used to be underrated, but too many networks are dumping shows there now and it’s becoming too crowded a marketplace. Airing there would not help the show at all.
Remember that the network also has on tap for the new year the superhero show Black Lightning as well as new seasons of returning favorites like iZombie and The Originals. Our feeling for now is that those latter two shows will end up on Fridays while Black Lightning replaces Legends of Tomorrow after its season is over and The 100 comes in after Valor. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but it’s going to be interesting to watch.
Of course, The CW could just resolve all of this by programming on Sundays — we think there’s a spot in the market they are missing there, but they haven’t been interested in doing that for some time.
