Family Guy exec discusses final Carrie Fisher episode

Even though some time has passed since the tragic death of Carrie Fisher, the calendar for an animated series is a lengthy one. Prior to her passing the legendary actress and writer recorded a few more appearances of Family Guy, and some of the final ones are getting set to play out. Fisher will be a part of the storyline on Sunday, and then come December her very last episode will air.

So what is the appearance for her character Angela like in her last episode? In speaking on that subject to Entertainment Weekly show executive producer Steve Callaghan had the following to say:

“It’s at the very top of the show. It’s Peter’s last day of work before he gets a little time off for the holidays, so it very much has that feeling that we all remember when it’s like the last day at school before Christmas vacation. Peter is sitting there with a boom box, just waiting to be dismissed from work so he can blare “School’s Out,” by Alice Cooper, and, of course, he keeps jumping the gun, much to the annoyance of Angela, who’s not quite ready to dismiss everyone from work. It’s just Peter’s enthusiasm for Christmas getting in the way — yet again — of him being the type of employee that Angela would expect him to be.”

Basically, Fisher’s final episode will be exactly what you would expect from this show — the expectation had to have been at the time that she would come back and record more episodes later, so we expect that the masterminds behind the show had this in mind while recording her episodes.

Callaghan also told the website that they are already planning an episode set to air in the fall that will address the departure of the Angela character and pay tribute to Fisher in some way. This is something that the series has had to wrestle with on two different occasions, given that they are also still in the process of mourning the late Adam West, as well. Mayor Adam West will be appearing in one of these upcoming episodes with Fisher, making it all the more sad to think about.

Even though Family Guy is hardly the sort of show to tackle tragedy with some sort of deft touch we have a lot of confidence that they will do right by Carrie. The video actually features some of the producers speaking out about casting Fisher and their memories working with her.
